The Result

I passed the written examination of the Under Secretary exams conducted by the state government. There I said it. Phew. I’m so not meant to be a secret keeper.

I wasnt planning to blurt it out like this in my blog. Mainly because I didnt want to jinx my chance. But I figured, if its to be, it will be. If not, I probably will live to see another day. So no issues.

I had a lot of doubts during my preparation for the exams. So I was pleasantly surprised to get the result. About 3800 had applied for the job and I dont know how many wrote the exam - but 180 got shortlisted. For 40 posts. Next step’s a viva which is scheduled from 16th September onwards, probably in batches.

And once again, if I dont get through, that means no more mention about it in my future posts. I dont think I can discuss heartbreak on a public platform ;) Fingers crossed.

What preparation?

I might as well tell what I’ve been upto.

The state government of Sikkim has finally (as in finally finally) declared the examination dates for the post of Under Secretary. Unfailingly, this always reminds me of Dolores Umbridge in the Potter books. Also I can safely say that about four or five thousand applicants are anxiously studying with all they got for 40 posts. Thats right, forty - F as in forty, O as in orty, R as in rty, T as in ty and Y as in - you bet the chances are slim, allright.

There’s the English and General Knowledge paper on 12th of April. Then I have additional subjects of Physics and Electrical Engineering whose syllabus looks more & more tougher day by day. Yes, my being an Electronics lecturer will help tremendously but it remains to be seen if it will finally save the day.

Almost all of my other colleagues have opted for their own engineering subject and Sociology as the additional subject. Apparently the syllabus for Sociology was only one paragraph so everyone thought they could nail it with minimum effort. I, on the other hand was either very wise or very stupid to opt for Physics, since I thought I could not risk going along with an entirely new subject.

Lets see how it goes. Oh, and also if I dont talk about this anymore in the months to come - cause thats how long it takes to get the result - I probably didnt make it and we’ll leave it at that.

She said ‘cheese’

We met this kid last week during our trip to West Sikkim. She is lovingly called Chinki-la and is about 5 years old. The best part about her is that nobody can mess with her. She’ll come straight at you and beat you otherwise. Really. She can eat throughout the length of the day and is the captain of her class in lower kindergarten. She came along with us for a day’s sightseeing trip and we were kept busy laughing at her antics the whole day through.

She says the sweetest ‘cheese’ when her snaps are being taken. I couldnt resist taking her pic from the back of the car even. After spending a couple of days with her around, I drew this conclusion that if this is what it is to have kids, I wouldnt mind having a Chinki-la of my own. Really.

Ga-ga over U-VA

The moment I saw the car, I was struck by its elegant looks; the very ‘different’ feel about it sets it apart from the rest of the pack. I was dazzled by its amazing head lights & its ability to make heads turn when taken for a test drive! Loved driving this car, incredibly spacious all right.

The indicators & the wipers have exchanged places though but the drive was smooth enough. Maybe not as smooth as Getz but will you look at the style already! The U-VA burns a bigger hole in my pocket than the Getz Prime even as I keep chanting, Its but ONE life….

Ahh… the choices you get to make in life.

Getz Prime!

Test drove it. Twice.

Got the bank finance forms.

Got the vehicle quotation.

So what the hell am still I waiting for???

Birding the Fly

Or, What Dreams May Come

Acc to one famous person, “A fly cant bird, but a bird can fly”

Alas, the fly in me refuses to let be added wings to soar the skies. Why? Let me count the ways…cause I’m too comfy being in my shell, I’m happy being stagnant in my routine, complaining, grumbling more often than not, still staying fixedly cause playing Ace Ventura just doesnt fit into my scheme of plans anymore.

No wonder I’m fascinated by people who travel the globe, leave everything at the drop of the hat, visit exotic places and narrate their experiences to a drooling me. I listen to their adventures and like to imagine the face of my boss when I tell him, I’ll headed for a one way trip, please grant me two months of paid leave!

No wonder a fly cant bird after all… but just for once, birding myself would be a dream I’d like to wake up to.
