Destination Petnopolis

I know I thrashed NDTV Good Times some time back. Well, that was before I got introduced to a fabulous place called Petnopolis during the show – Heavy Petting (where the petting is reserved for one’s pets, fyi)

I’m now a regular visitor to Petnopolis. Yes – its this social website for pets where your pet can now socialize with other pets, consult Dr Pet, check out breeders, groomers, trainers, adoption issues as per your locality and best of all even blog in your profile.

The only problem is that I’m the only person from my state in Petnopolis. That effectively means that my dog wont be able to actually socialize… I hope that changes sooner than later. In the meantime, if you’re a pet owner/lover or simply love pets, register for free and see what pet heaven actually looks like.

Whew!

Okay, so the match wasnt as exciting to watch online, or rather read the scores online (because of a dratted thing called work) as compared to watching it live but was it a sweet victory or what! Hahaha…. if only one could see pictures like these on a regular basis.

And yes, I am also happy to eat crow and take back all the words from my previous post.

Brothers & Sisters

I like this new soap on Star World for two reasons – former Ally McBeal Calista Flockhart and Sally Fields. Although I have a very limited tolerance level towards soaps in the first place, right from the untouchable Hindi ones to never-ending dragsters like Bold & the Beautiful.

Which made me thinking – it must be wonderful living in such a large family – a fact which we, most of the current generation of Indians would not know about, thanks to our Government’s family planning policy. Plus the fact that the Walker family and we live in separate planets of society and culture altogether.

Nevertheless, the show tends to touch almost all aspects of reality, heart-breaks, diseases and beliefs that I find appealing. Its all about keeping it as real as possible yet with a dash of good looking Hollywood stars. I am now an even bigger fan of Sally Fields – The Mom. And even though she may not have anything to do with the title, for me she’s the real star of the show.

Abe’s words

A letter from Abraham Lincoln to his son’s teacher. I liked it.

“He will have to learn, I know, that all men are not just and are not true. But teach him if you can, the wonder of books.. but also give him quiet time to ponder the eternal mystery of birds in the sky, bees in the sun and flowers on a green hillside.

In school, teach him it is far more honorable to fall than to cheat…..

Teach to have faith in his own ideas, even if everyone tells him he is wrong.

Teach him to be gentle with gentle people and tough with the tough.

Try to give my son the strength not to follow the crowd when everyone getting on the bandwagon…

Teach him to listen to all men; but teach him also to filter all he hears on a screen of truth, and take only the good that comes through.

Teach him, if you can, how to laugh when he is sad… Teach him there is no shame in tears.

Teach him to scoff at cynics and to be beware of too much sweetness.. Teach him to sell his brawn and brain to highest bidders, but never to put a price on his heart and soul. Teach him to close his ears to a howling mob.. and stand and fight if thinks he is right.

Treat him gently, but do not cuddle him, because only the test of fire makes fine steel. Let him have the courage to be impatient.. Let him have the patience to be brave. Teach him always to have sublime faith in himself, because then he will have faith in humankind.

This is a big order, but see what you can do. . He is such a fine little fellow my son!”

Blogpane

I was going through the Blog Referral tools in my site when I realized that I was listed on Blogpane. Quite a multitude of people from my old Alma Mater blogging, not surprisingly, from seniors to juniors and ex-juniors after my time. Nice work.

John Lennon concert

Watched parts of the John Lennon concert on tv yesterday. The bits where they showed videos of him and his tiny kid was especially touching. I especially liked listening to his ‘Stand by me’ song after a long time. However, my favourite song by John Lennon will always be this:

Nobody loves you when you’re down and out
Nobody sees you when you’re on cloud nine
Everybody’s hustlin’ for a buck and a dime
I’ll scratch your back and you scratch mine

I’ve been across to the other side
I’ve shown you everything, I got nothing to hide
And still you ask me do I love you, what it is, what it is
All I can tell you is it’s all show biz
All I can tell you is it’s all show biz

Nobody loves you when you’re down and out
Nobody knows you when you’re on cloud nine
Everybody’s hustlin’ for a buck and a dime
I’ll scratch your back and you knife mine

And so on…

Yellow Fellow!

I love the Yellow colour. I didnt know this till my friend commented so two days back. She said she saw yellow things everywhere in my house :D Its true. My placemats are yellow, so are my bed linen; as are my tea cups, my toothbrush, the bed spread and now finally my blog font is also yellow!

Its kinda strange cause I always thought green was my favourite colour till now. How it is possible that I cant seem to determine my own colour choice is either a mystery or one of those sub conscious things that takes place… well, sub conciously.

I was recently gifted a magnificent tea set of the loveliest yellow colour with tiny, pretty white flowers by the same friend. Looking at it will always remind me that I’m not a greenie meanie; that I’m actually a yellow fellow!

A bitter sweet thing called friendship

Sometimes the past comes back with a vengance to bite you in the you-know-where. Im 27 years old and its indeed been a decade since I was a gawky, akward, all-knowing teenager, roaming fearlessly around the streets with my friends. What friendships we had around that time. We thought we were invincible and everything we did showcased that… Be it taunting the tution teacher to defiantly walking out of the class just to show that we dont need no education! I experimented with my first lipstick around the same time, bleached my hair to a ghastly bright yellow, wore what I thought were fashionable rags, only now to realize that they were not really fashionable but merely rags and now that I think about it, makes me want to crawl under a rock everytime I meet old acquaintances.

Fast forward to the present. I met up with my best bud this week who had come home for the holidays. Two of us went for a long drive up the hills, singing old Manila Sotang songs. When we reached our destination, the cold winds were raising a havoc already and we took a lotta pics with our hair flying awry and all. The day got over in a few minutes and it was already time to go back home. How I wished that time would never pass…

These days, when I talk to my old friends about days gone by, I’m filled with a strange sense of bittersweet emotions…maybe its the feeling that those good old days are gone and wont come back, maybe its the incredible sense of If Only I could have those moments once again. Reliving all those memories is a painful tug of the heart, a stab of missing the golden years.

But then again, something tells me that we just think and long for something cause its already gone by. What we dont realize is that even the present going on right now will be a past some day and I’d better live it up and make it as memorable as possible! Thats when a light goes on in my head and I start feeling better about everything and concentrate on living a better life, even if its just for the sake of having better memories, who knows?

Then slowly the bittersweet emotions subside and there emerges a new never-say-die attitude that tells me to live like there’s no tomorrow….and thats what I hope to do.

P.S. Shaliya, my love….a thousand thanks for inducting me into this blog thing. Cant tell you how stress-busting this is turning out to be!
