Have some respect

I couldnt believe my eyes when I read this on MTV’s tickr:

Sania’s track pants will make more news than Abhinav Bindra.

He will not get to feature in a single advertisement.

Harman Baweja will be more famous that Abhinav Bindra.

No girl with put up a poster of Abhinav Bindra in her room or even wallpaper on her desktop.

No one will recognize him on the streets.

His signature will never become an autograph.

So what if he won a Gold, Rohit Sharma will still make more money than Abhinav!

At best, RGV may approach Abhinav Bindra for a gangstar film.

And he wont pay him for it.

No one will come on iSuperstar and want to be Abhinav.

Big Boss will not invite him to his house.

Abhinav Bindra will become one of the officers in Khatron Ka Khiladi, at best.

The Abhinav Bindra Fan Club on Facebook has 43 members.

Thats probably two less than Tusshaar’s.

The sad part is that MTV wants to be so cool – it thinks making fun of a national hero is okay. I dont agree with this. Watch out, MTV – this is not one of your Roadies that you’re talking about.

This is a big deal and I for one was stupendously proud of the Indian National Anthem being played at the award ceremony. This is not a small achievement and we all know it.

The 25 year old has achieved what no one had before in the history of Indian Sports. He is India’s first individual Olympic gold medallist while the last gold for India was won by the hockey team in 1980.

He has done India proud and reading such tasteless jokes on MTV makes me ashamed of the media. For what its worth, his picture is now on my desktop.

Congratulations, Abhinav Bindra!

  • Really gives you goosebumps..the national anthem..doesn’t it?
No matter what I think, every time I hear that, I get goosebumps.

  • It really does. I welled up all inside. A truly historic moment, that was.

  • I think its a mighty great feeling to stand up thr n c the Indian flag fly high and the anthem being played, how often does that happen?? huh??
I am glad you wrote abt the disrespect MTV snikr showed for Abhinav. Someone’s gotto put this into MTV;s brains, this infact is a truly “What The F” moment and hope they cover this in their own show Wassup.

  • Exactly, Raven! How often does that happen indeed.

I was thinking the same thing – this is truly a “What The F” moment that they talk about in Wassup!!!

  • You hit a bulls eye. Being an on and off viewer of MTV I can say, the messages it airs these days are like keeping an axe at the root of a country’s culture in which many takes pride. I don’t know of any family which tell their children to be foul mouthed like the roadies in the name of fame.

Abhinav Bindra’s achievement has much more wider reach than MTV’s icons of popularity. He is known to the youngest to the oldest alike in the planet wherever the scent of India has reached.

  • True. I wonder if freedom of speech means airing anything and everything on TV. Surely there has got to be a line drawn somewhere.

  • Was MTV making fun of Abhinav Bindra???

Werent they making fun of all those who goes after Sania’s track pant or Harman Baweja or Rohit Sharma instead of appreciating a national hero like Abhinav Bindra?

And what they told is fact … Isnt it??? Inspite of Bindra’s unprecendented achievement he’ll be forgotten soon and people will start going after the kind of celebrities mentioned here!

  • Agreed. Yes, MTV was making fun of ALL of them. I didnt see it that way. I was busy getting all offended for Abhinav Bindra’s sake :D

Also, its true that people choose to hero-worship only famous celebs no matter whether they bring home gold medals or not. Sad but true.

  • I forgot to put a smiling face. :)
With that I believe I can get away with whatever I say.

  • My vote to Sandeep’s comment. I took it that ways…

  • Hehehe… Sree, we both share the same secret :P

Yes, Shaliya. I’m now tempted to vote along with Sandeep and you ;)

    (Note the smiley) :P

  • i know things go cheap in recession ,but heyy not as cheap as as mtv ,s Abhinav bindra joke. well agredd u want attention by makink fun of celebrities , but why ABndra, try rinchen,or sree, if u want maximum controversy u can make fun of me as well…………………………….
