… was a major yawn event stretching all the way past midnight. The remaining Indian Idol contenders and sundry performed in their sunday best except for Anu Mallik who had a silver lining to his jacket that shone and shimmered as much as a hyper active disco ball.
More irritating were the ads that kept popping up in between the finale stretching it like a magical rubber band. After three hours of waiting game, John Abraham finally raised Prashant Tamang’s hand in victory. Finally, being the operative word while we, back home already knew the result as early as 6:30 pm that evening!
I’m glad that Prashant won. Amit Paul is a fantastic singer and deserves the SX-4 too, lucky chap! Sikkim and the rest of West Bengal can finally go back to a normal life after all the frenzied SMSing and overwhelming campaigning for Prashant. I dont know if the winner knows that even in the remotest of all villages, people sold their cows & chicken and donated the money in his support.
Now what we’re all looking forward to is for Prashant Tamang to come to Sikkim and hold one of his concert here. I’m sure that’ll be an event much, much more view-worthy than yesterday’s yawn fest

I knw! The result reached the Western Ghats by abt 9.30 PM and it took ages to reach the capital!
Too mucha hype I swear! Imagine the money the telecom guys and the channel made. Voting earned about 21 crores straight away man!
Anyways, I was proud to see Prashant win! The traditional felicitation was touchy… Felt bad for Amit though. He is definitely better! But I am sure he will get a break in playback singing soon…
Another thing to watch was the gesture our guys showed… They looked more like friends than the cut-throat competitors. I liked that!
Hope Prashant’s concert coincides with my trip!
Hehehe… Dilli seems slower to recieve its own result than the rest of India! Yeah, even I did the maths and figured out 21 crores. You know, Namchi donated 1 crore it seems. And the rich dudes shelled out lakhs themselves.
I was also very happy Prashant won. There were fireworks all over town after the result post midnight. People celebrated like hell.
My condolences to Amit. He was a superb singer who deserved to win. Hope he becomes a great playback singer soon. I loved the fact that Maruti also gifted Amit an SX-4. Superb!
Prashant did show extreme solidarity towards Amit esp the way he included Amit in every step post his win. Wonderful touch.
And finally for those nagging voices saying people should not vote in favour of caste, creed, religion… when the format itself gives liberty to the individual to chose their favourites, why should they complain about on what basis the people vote??? If you dont want regional voting, cancel the format and make the judges choose the final winner. Till then, the public will vote the way they want to!
